Polly Smith

Biography

For The Dark Crystal, Polly Smith was credited as associate costume designer, creating the detailed costumes for the Gelfling and the Podlings. She got her start in costume design while at art school and while working in theatre and then furthered her costume studies while at New York University. Smith began with Jim Henson by working on The Muppet Show for several years, and got her big break with the Muppets in the show's fifth and final season, when she was asked to design for the year. Smith has also worked on numerous Henson projects including every Muppet feature film, Labyrinth, and numerous television series including Sesame Street, The Storyteller, and Fraggle Rock. Various non-Henson projects include Jack's Big Music Show and Bunnytown. While she has dressed everything from chickens to Fraggles, Smith's constant muse and the biggest beneficiary of her talent over the years has been Miss Piggy.
